“The Challenges of Studying China: Reflections on the Past, Present and Future”

Speaker: Laura De Giorgi, Full Professor of History of Modern and Contemporary China, Ca’ Foscari University, President of the European Association of Chinese Studies

About the speaker:

Laura De Giorgi (Ph.D.) is Full Professor of History of Modern and Contemporary China at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and President of the European Association of Chinese Studies. Her research interests include the history of media and propaganda in China and the cultural interactions between Europe, Italy and China along the twentieth century. Among her recent publications: Contact Zones in China: Multidisciplinary Perspectives (with Merle Schatz and Peter Ludes) De Gruyter 2020; “Special Issue: Chinese Youth and Socialism, from the Soviet Republic to the Early Post-Mao Years: Historical and Cultural Perspectives”, European Journal of East Asian Studies, 2024 (with Sofia Graziani and Yang Weijian).
